Christmas Special: Christmas Food & Drink Through the Ages

A talk by food historian Sylvia Levi, and professional researcher Simon Fowler

Time & Location

Dec 16, 2026, 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Norwegian Church , 12 Albion St, London SE16 7LN, UK

About the event

Join us for our Christmas Special as we find out what Rotherhithe residents, rich and poor, would have eaten and drank over the Christmas period. Would they have eaten turkey and furmity? Or have drunk Smoking Bishop? And would the paupers in the workhouse have been allowed a pint of beer? All will be revealed...

Sylvia Levi is an enthusiastic food historian with a particular interest in what our ancestors baked, and Simon Fowler is a professional researcher, writer and tutor who enjoys his beer.
