About the event

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of Canada Dock at Rotherhithe, part of the Surrey Commercial Docks. Originally much larger, the dock was truncated in the 1980's to become what is now known as Canada Water. This talk is the third of a four-part mini-series which will reveal and celebrate the history of the body of water whose name now defines a unique and ever-evolving district of inner London.


A rare opportunity to hear about and discuss how the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) led the 1980's transformation the Surrey Docks peninsular, directly with the former landscape architect himself. Fraser Borwick's responsibilities spanned the redesign of Canada Water / Dock, together with much of the London Docklands south of the Thames. His remit included the restoration of King Edward III's Manor House and the commissioning of the numerous public art works which we still enjoy to this…
