What We Do

We aim to encourage interest in the history of Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, the surrounding area, Docklands and the River Thames.

How We Do It

Monthly Meetings:

We organise lively illustrated talks given by experts in their field. These take place on the last Wednesday of every month, except August (no meeting) and December (which is mid-month and a bit different!). Arrival is from 7:30pm for a 7:45pm start. We take a refreshment break midway through, and our evenings end around 9:30-10pm. Meetings are usually held at the Time and Talents Centre, which is housed in a fascinating former mortuary at the heart of historic Rotherhithe Village. Very atmospheric!

Walks and Visits:

In summer (June & July) our meetings take the form of local walks or visits. Meeting points vary but are always close to public transport.

Publication:

Members also receive our twice-yearly local history journal, the Redriffe Chronicle. This highly regarded publication features articles of local historical interest, as well as sections on notes and queries and reviews of selected events. If you wish to contribute an article, anecdote or snippet of information, please email info[at]rbhistory.org.uk  (please substitute @ for [at])

As Well As:

Affiliation to LAMAS, the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society

Member of the British Association for Local History

Co-operate with bodies seeking to promote tourism in the area.
